Allegations of Research Misconduct
Jurnal Teknologi Informasi dan Multimedia (JTIM) is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and credibility of scholarly research and follows the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling allegations of research misconduct.
Research misconduct refers to intentional or negligent practices that compromise the integrity, reliability, or originality of scholarly research and publication. Such misconduct may include, but is not limited to, fabrication of data or research results, falsification or manipulation of data, plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, inappropriate manipulation of images or research materials, unethical research practices, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and authorship misconduct such as guest, honorary, or ghost authorship.
Handling Allegations
Any allegation of research misconduct may be reported to the editorial office by authors, reviewers, readers, institutions, or other parties. Allegations should be supported by sufficient information or evidence to enable the journal to conduct an appropriate assessment.
Upon receiving an allegation, the journal will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the scope of research or publication misconduct and whether there is sufficient basis for further investigation. The Editor-in-Chief or designated editor may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors and other relevant parties.
If the allegation requires further investigation, the journal will follow appropriate procedures in accordance with relevant COPE guidelines and flowcharts. Where necessary, the journal may contact the authors' affiliated institution, research institution, funding organization, or other appropriate authority to request an independent investigation.
The journal will maintain confidentiality throughout the investigation to the extent reasonably possible and will ensure that all parties involved are treated fairly and given an appropriate opportunity to respond to the allegations.
Editorial Actions
Depending on the nature and severity of the misconduct and the outcome of the investigation, JTIM may take one or more of the following actions:
-
request an explanation, clarification, or correction from the authors;
-
request additional data, research materials, or supporting documentation;
-
reject a manuscript that is under consideration;
-
publish a correction, clarification, or editorial statement;
-
issue an Expression of Concern when the reliability of the research is in question but the investigation has not yet been concluded;
-
retract a published article when the findings are determined to be unreliable or the publication involved serious misconduct; or
-
notify the relevant author's institution or other appropriate authority when necessary.
In cases where misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take additional measures considered appropriate to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
JTIM does not make allegations of research misconduct solely on the basis of disagreement with research findings, academic interpretation, or honest errors that do not affect the integrity of the work. However, serious or systematic breaches of research and publication ethics will be investigated and addressed appropriately.
The journal reserves the right to take action even after an article has been published if credible evidence of research misconduct subsequently emerges. All decisions will be made based on the available evidence and in accordance with principles of fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and publication ethics.
