Increasing demand for energy efficiency in the transportation sector highlights the need for educational media that can introduce fuel efficiency concepts in an engaging and accessible manner. However, understanding of the factors affecting fuel efficiency remains limited, while most automotive games focus primarily on entertainment rather than education. This study developed Fuel Run: 1L Challenge as an educational simulation game based on game-based learning and serious game approaches to introduce vehicle fuel efficiency systems. The game integrates idle mechanics, a simplified physics-based simulation, and interactive feedback to illustrate the effects of four main factors engine, fuel, vehicle body, and supporting technology on vehicle efficiency. The development process employed the ADDIE model combined with the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC), targeting an Android platform in portrait orientation. The novelty of this study lies in presenting fuel efficiency concepts through an interactive simulation designed for non-technical users. The evaluation involved 45 respondents using a pre-test and post-test design, with the results analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and effect size calculation. The results showed an increase in the mean understanding score from 72.57 to 82.34, representing an increase of 9.77 points (13.5% relatively) after using the game. The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (Z = -4.518; p < 0.001), with an effect size of r = 0.48, categorized as moderate. These findings indicate that Fuel Run: 1L Challenge has the potential to serve as an alternative educational medium for supporting understanding of vehicle fuel efficiency.
